A crisp morning greeted the setting out team with a layer of frost covering Post Hill. With the sun peeking through the trees temperatures soon rose, thawing the frost and even drying out some areas. Anyone that knows this area will know that marking out sections in these conditions is difficult task in itsself. The CoC and his team aimed for sensible but challenging sections and we hope we hit the nail on the head. It has been a while since these numbers attended Post Hill and we hope you had an enjoyable afternoons trialing and that you'll all be back for the next event on the 23rd of March. It was good to see all 10 sections with observers making the event run a lot smoother, thanks.

Sad News

M A L. White a West Leeds Motor Club member in the1950s & 60s has sadly passed away at the age of 94. He was a committee member and chairman of the club during this time and rode a 500 Triumph in trials with a fair amount of success; the late Geoff Broadbent said Mal was one of the best 500 twin Triumph riders in the North of England at the time.

He was the manager for C Wylde & sons motor cycle dealer in Leeds for a period and later worked for another motor cycle dealer in Leeds, Watson & Cairns, both of which no longer exist today.

The funeral takes place at York Crematorium on Thursday 1st February 2024 at 1.00pm

AGM

The club AGM was held on the evening of the 11th January, some changes to the club officials (see Club Info for details).

Novice & Beginners Trial

A nice pleasant afternoon for the final round of this years Novice & Beginners Trial at Post Hill. Thank you to all those riders who have turned out to support the events and helped to close the series with a successful event.

Club treasurer, Ben Ludgate, cleaned up on the main route by going round the 40 section course feet up.

On the 50/50 course Katie Ward "Triumphed" again by going round for the loss of only 8 marks, whilst on the Beginner route Steve Gossop on a BSA lost just 3 marks, both these winners on old bikes and beating all the modern machines!

Steve Walker Memorial Trial

A rather disappointing entry of just 34 riders for this event; which after all is one of the premier events in the West Yorkshire centre championship rounds.

A glorious sunny day at Skyrakes with bone dry sections. West Leeds had two winners in the shape of Liam Walker going round the main championship route for the loss of 7 marks and Jeff Prior winning the Clubman B championship route for a miserly loss of just 3 marks. Well done to both these winners.

There were some errors crept into the originally published results. These have now been corrected, you may need to refresh results page to see the amendments.

Fifth Round Novice & Beginners Trial

Results from the 5th round of our Novice & Beginners are now available, apologies for the delay. A nice dry course for this one led to a low scoring event. On the main course Jake Walker managed to go round clean, pushed hard though by Paul Kettlewell who dropped just one mark. Slightly higher scores on the 50/50 route with Mick Kettlewell going round for a loss of 11. On the Beginners route Keith Normington also managed to go clean.

Fourth Round Novice & Beginners Trial

After an enforced lay-off, Paul Kettlewell came back to Post Hill and immediately took the top spot on the main route losing just 9 marks. Jeff Prior and Ben Francis pushed him fairly hard and not far behind on 12 and 13. On the 50/50 route Mick Clark a long time club member took the win, coincidentally also on 9 marks lost.

On the Beginners course Ian Exley just got the better of Steve Wicks with a tiebreak for first place.

TrialsUK White Rose Trial

A late addition to this years results. There was a new award donated this year; The Gordon Carr Shield; this was for the best performance by an over 40. It was missed off the original results sheet- apologies for that. In addition to winning a First Class award riding the main route; Darren Brice now has this new award to his credit.

Special Award

In recognition of his 60 year service to the White Rose Trial; long time club member Paul Whitaker was presented with a plaque. Seen here being presented by club president John Kershaw (the tall one). During this 60 years Paul has held various roles which were:

Clerk of the Course
Asst CoC
Event Secretary
Chief Marshall
Asst Event Secretary

Time Keeper
Observer

Award was donated by Gordon Carr.
